LITERACY SKILLS

COMMON CONNECTIVES

Common Connectives quoted from Tina Sharpe, Literacy: a key to History , AIS Course, 22nd May, 2000

Using connectives makes your writing stronger. Instead of writing a series of simple sentence, eg.
"The cat sat on the mat. The cat sat in front of the fire. The cat was warm." you can join them using connectives to make the writing interesting.

Because the cat sat on the mat in front of the fire it soon became warm.

"because" shows cause and effect; "soon" is a time connective; and the writing is more interesting.
