TASK - A CASE STUDY

As a class, you have been asked to investigate the lives of the following influential people who lived in the Roman Empire in the period 60 BCE to 54 CE and complete the following task so that the leaders of the galaxy can use this information to help make a decision about what would be a good form of government for the galaxy and what should be avoided.

The People are:

Pompey the Great

Marcus Licinius Crassus

Cleopatra

Marc Antony

Julius Caesar often just called Caesar

Gaius Octavian/Octavius/Caesar Augustus (all the same person)

Your teacher will alllocate your group one of these people.

(1) Prepare a brief biography of this person showing the important dates in his or her life, including birth and death (if known) but concentrating on the events associated with their involvement in Roman Government. (15 marks)

(2) Write a long paragraph explaining what his or her role WAS in the government of their time clearly showing what his or her influence was in bringing about or forcing changes to the government of the time. (15 marks)

(3) Write a long paragraph explaining the short and long term RESULTS of his or her interference in the structures of government. (15 marks)
Some ideas you may consider include

- did the way Rome was governed change as a result of what he/she did or,
- did the way Rome was governed change as a result of his/her leadership
- did the way Rome was govrned change as a result of his/her influences on other people

(4) Summarise your finding in the three previous tasks to assess the impact of your person on the period and whether your person contributed to changing the way Rome was governed and, if so, when and how. Combine all your answers and present your Case Study to your teacher for marking. (10 marks)
