This WebQuest has been designed to meet part of the requirements of Topic 4, Indigenous Peoples, Colonisation and Contact History, North America (Section A) of the 1999 Syllabus and Topic 2, Societies and Civilisations of the Past, Group B, the Americas, of the 2003 Syllabus.
SCOPE AND DURATION
This is meant to be a short WebQuest. It is designed to be a simple information gathering exercise, using the internet and should take no more than two lessons. It is designed to allow students to read a significant amount of new information and make some sort of sense of it.
The assessment tasks have been kept simple considering that this is designed for Year 7 students - a poster and a group presentation. However, there are many other assessment tasks which may be derived from this webquest including
- an extended response
- a debate about the implications of this issue for Australia today
- an examination of our own constitution and seeing what connections have been inherited from this interaction between the Native Americans and the European Americans
Some of the resources may be a little difficult for some students. You may wish to do some pre-reading on the topic so that you can clearly explain to any students who need the help, what the document is about.
